Why a reset works on modern phones, and why it still needs checking
Modern iPhones, iPads and Android devices encrypt their storage by default. A full factory reset destroys the encryption key, so the old data can't be read. The risk is in the details: devices still signed in to an account, memory cards left in, management profiles still attached, or a reset that was never actually finished.
What we do for each device
- Check it's been released from your device management and signed out of Apple or Google accounts.
- Remove and wipe any memory card separately, and remove the SIM.
- Run a full factory reset and confirm the device returns to its setup screen.
- Record the make, model, serial number or IMEI, method and result on the certificate.

Because the device is signed out and reset, it can be handed to a new member of staff, donated, or sold without being locked to your account.

Questions
What about old Android phones?
Very old Android phones may not encrypt their storage. We check each one, and if a phone can't be wiped reliably it's recorded and sent for destruction instead.
The phone is locked to someone who's left. Can you help?
An Activation Lock or Google account lock has to be removed by the account owner or your device management system. We'll tell you exactly what's needed before we visit.
Do you wipe company tablets used as tills or sign-in screens?
Yes. Tablets used in reception or for payments often hold customer details, so they're worth wiping before they're replaced.
